I never thought it would be so difficult to buy a new camera. I have been thinking about buying one for the last few months already but I have actively been doing some research for the past 4 or 5 weeks now. I also asked some friends who are photographer but in the end everyone tells me something different and on the internet I also find so many different opinions and recommendations. It is just so difficult because there are soooo many options – it’s incredible.
First I was sure I wanted to buy a DSLR (reflex) but now I don’t want one anymore. I first had to figure out what I even want to do with that camera. Every camera is different and you can do different things with it. So I figured that I want to:
- take the camera with me everyday (so I need something small and light)
- street photography
- makro (nature, i.e flowers,..)
- take pictures of food
what I do not care about much is: videos, sport or taking pictures at night
When buying a camera it is extremely important to first figure out what you even want to do with it. Since for me one of the most important criteria is to bring the camera with me all the time I excluded the DSLR cameras. They are big, they are heavy and I would have to carry several lenses with me as well. Besides: the lenses are very expensive!
Then I found the DSLM cameras (or mirorrless cameras). They are much smaller and lighter and you can still buy different lenses and change them. I especially liked the Sony Alpha ones (A6000, A6300).
And the other option would be a compact camera. I really like the Sony ones again, especially RX100 III or IV, but also the Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ101 which is really good as well and cheaper than Sony.
I still haven’t decided yet but hope it won’t take too long.
My top choices for now are:
- Sony A6000 (+ ability to change lenses, cheap body – lenses are very expensive)
- Sony RX 100 IV (+ small and light and good quality, – expensive, bad zoom)
- Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ101 (+ good zoom, cheap, – quality less good than the RX100 I think because less light or something like that)
So if anyone has any recommendations please let me know! 🙂
