New gym

Javi and I were looking for a gym close to our home. On the map there showed up several gyms but we only found one. We walked around and looked for any signs or anything but we just couldn’t find the gyms. We then found a gym (recommended by a work colleague of Javi) next to the shopping center “MixC”. It’s around 15 minutes walking distance from our home so it’s okay. We knew the price for one year should be 2000 CNY. When we first went there they told us it would be 2500 CNY. Maybe a foreigner price? We don’t know. Anyways Javi asked his work colleague if he can come with us to negotiate the price and that’s what he did. So we paid 2000 CNY (= 250 EUR) for one year.

Side note: it’s really funny how chinese people negotiate. They listen to what the other guy says without even looking at each other and kind of ignoring him. It was really weird and not the first time I saw it. When the lady at the airport negotiated the price for the taxi it was the same. After the first offer she just walked away, ignoring the guy and not even looking at him while the guy is running after her trying to convince her. So different.

The gym is okay. The design is nice and the machines are good (TechnoGym) but there are many more trainers than customers. There are like 10 trainers there (way too many) and don’t do anything the whole day. From time to time they have a customer and can do personal training but most of the time they are just there doing workouts themselves, or taking pictures, or eating… In general – here in China – you can see that in any small store there are like 5 people whereas in Europe there would only be 1 or maximum 2. And they just stand around because they have nothing to do. I don’t say that in a negative way but that’s just how it is. There are way too many people and not enough jobs. So 5 or even more people do the job of one. It’s crazy. And sad at the same time because this means that instead of one person getting paid 1.000 EUR a month, these 5 people only get paid around 300 EUR a month because there are just too many people.

Anyways… we go to the gym everyday from Monday to Friday. Saturday and Sunday are our rest days. We used to go everyday at 7 in the morning but unfortunately here in Chine the gyms don’t open that early. Now we usually go at around 10 or 11, depending on our schedules.

Hiking in Summer

DSC04100.jpg

I got a visitor! My best friend Marina came to visit me. She flew from Salzburg to Valencia and arrived at midnight at my house. I was checking her flight on Flight Radar 24 (https://www.flightradar24.com) the whole time. It’s great because you see where exactly the plane is right now and at what time it lands.

We only had 2 full days together. It’s not a lot of time but it definitely was a great weekend. On Saturday we went to the mountain called Peรฑรณn de Ifach in the city of Calpe. It’s 1 hour walking to the top and the view is amaaaazing. It was already my third time going up there and I am always impressed by the view.

We got up at 6:30 in the morning because it is a 1,5 hour car drive to Calpe and now in summer it’s better to go up early. There are no trees on the way up, only rocks so you are in the sun almost all the time. Now in summer its extremely hot here in Spain so better get up early and don’t forget to use sun screen ๐Ÿ˜›

After that we went to the city “Javea”. It’s famous for its beautiful beaches. We wanted to go to the beach of “Granadella” but there were so many people it was not possible. So we went to another beach called “Cala Barraca”. There were also sooo many people. I hate crowded places. We spent there around 2 hours and then went back home because we had to go to a birthday dinner of a friend. Next time I go to Javea will definitely NOT be in July or August…but I will definitely go back because the beaches really are beautiful.

La Fontcalda

Today we did another daytrip! This summer is full of daytrips and I love it. Spain has so many beautiful villages and nature to offer.ย

Today we went to Tarragona to a place called “La Fontcalda”. We went by car and it was crazy because first you have to go all the way up to a mountain and then on the other side all the way down again. The little river is in the middle of all the mountains and the only road that leads there is actually going over the mountains.

It was really quiet and almost no people because we went early in the morning. Later at noon there were more and more people coming. The plan was to go swimming but we both did not go inside the water because it was full of crabs haha. I saw at least 20 different crabs and they are sooo fast! So nope.. we just laid there to get tanned and relax a little ๐Ÿ™‚

Some people jump from the rocks inside the water but that’s something I could not do – I honestly am way to afraid of jumping. I rather watch the others haha.

The water was really green and clear. On the picture above the shade on the rock looks like the face of a man – really scary but fascinating!
